Welcome

"To preserve and maintain the integrity of the legal profession by regulating and developing members and to uphold, defend and advance the rule of law through advocating on legal matters of national interest"

The Law Society of Botswana discharges a dual role. On the one hand, it regulates its members and on the other hand it represents the professional welfare of its members. In regulating its members the society is in fact representing the interest of members of the public. There is that constant demand on the part of the Society to balance the two competing interests.

The Law Society requires a strong Secretariat to function effectively, and support from members is essential to the attainment of this caliber of Secretariat. Our Secretariat needs to be capacitated and with the new structure in place, things can only get better. Members need to support the acivities of the Society by taking an active part in the various specialized committees of the Society. These committees report to the Secretariat and ensure not only that the Secretariat is strengthened but also that power is more dispersed for the best results. This can only achieve a more visible role for each member of the Society in the running of the Society.

The Law Society maintains professional standards, access to justice, advocacy and fostering a spirit of collegiality among all practitioners, forging a more visible and meaningful role for the legal profession in the shaping of professional and public discourse.
